The "BBK.Maticas" programme, for the moment in 54 schools of Biscay province (Basque Country), wants students to notice how important numbers are: The language of numbers, how we can measure reality, how we can enjoy the knowledge of maths, and we can also apply numbers to many circumstances in everiday life. Imagine the news without numbers. Imposible, surrealistic. Students are invited to choose a particular munber from the panel and explain why they like it. They must also account all the numbers they see during a day while they`re at home, they walk in the streets, they go to school... Our exhibit, "ZkiNo" is now part of "BBK-Maticas". Numbers in the streets, in everiday life, aged, broken, strange numbers... definitely inspire us. It all begun in the old town inside Vitoria-Gasteiz. Now it has no boundaries, no limits, just like numbers. I composed a 7m wide panel for this exhibit, but soon I'll be able to cover a whole room with my numbers.

MUMOK Mathematics governs our everyday lives: We are surrounded by numbers,
calculations, statistics, probabilities and geometrical constructions that
structure our world.
Exact and Different investigates the influence mathematics has had on art
in the 20th century while at the same time drawing analogies to other
periods. More than 300 works from 120 artists demonstrate how
questions of mathematics have influenced art in the 20th century – also
how these mathematical and geometrical systems were overcome as
other forms of knowledge were sought to be produced.
With the rediscovery of central perspective during the Renaissance, the
relationship between art and mathematics would once again become
closer. During the 15th century in Italy, artists and theorists of art
published books about the construction of pictorial space and geometric
bodies. Albrecht Dürer – artist and mathematician in one person – would
bring back the knowledge he gained in Italy to central Europe.
His etching
“Melencholia I”, which still puzzles us to this day, not only portrays a
prominent polyhedron and sextant but also a “magic square” whose
rows, columns and diagonals sum to 34.
Beginning in the 20th century, it is precisely in turning away from central
perspective that the artist again looks for inspiration in mathematics.
Non-Euclidean geometries, n-dimension spaces in mathematics and
physics along with the notion of curved space in Einstein’s theory of
relativity make the traditional notion of space organized by central
perspective begin to seem like a thing of the past. Artists such as Juan
Gris, Henri Laurens or Giacomo Balla react to this paradigm shift with the
multiple perspectives of cubism, the segmentation of reality into
geometrical building blocks along with the simultaneousness of
movement in Futurism.
The corresponding abstraction and detachment
from phenomenal reality would then culminate in concrete art, where
Theo van Doesburg, Georges Vantongerloo or Max Bill would champion
the use of pure forms of art based on geometrical forms. In all of these
cases, mathematics provides the basis for these demands and ideals. Albrecht Dürer Sol LeWitt

2008.an herri eskoletan izango den panel hau 7 metro luze da. Neska-mutikoei zenbakiak era ludiko batean heleraztea da asmoa, Divulgamat elkartearekin lanean ari gara, eta mostra honek bizi luzea izango du eskoletan, "BBK-máticas" izena du programak. . (IN ENGLISH)
It's 7 meters long, and I´ll take to the public schools of Bizkaia in 2008. It's a project developed together with the Divulgamat group. We want to promote a nice, cooler approach of students toward numbers. The program's name: "BBK-Máticas (EN ESPAÑOL)
Este panel de 7 m. irá de escuela en escuela por Bizkaia a lo largo del 2008. Se trata de acercar los números a los chicos y chicas de una forma lúdica, de la mano de la asociación Divulgamat. El programa se llama "BBK-Máticas"
Gasteizko kaleetan jasoa: Hirukiak daramatzaten bi zaindari amerindiarrek bikiak ematen dute. Polita ezta? Hauentzako zer kontratu proposatzen zenuela, Raxoi jauna? Hauentzako lan eta soldata duina, ta kitto.
(IN ENGLISH)
I was walking in the streets of Vitoria when I suddenly discovered a triplet driven by these nice amerindian twins. Gorgeous! .-I thougt- so what kind of integration contract do we need for inmigrants? Give them a decent job and wage, that's all.
Zki.Nº serieak kalean topatutako elementu hauekin jokatzeko aukera ematen dit. Ez dauka amaierarik. Nik uste baino askoz urrunago eraman nau, baina hauxe besterik ez da finean: Kaleko zenbakiak.
(IN ENGLISH):
The ZkiNº series lets me combine these elements captured in the streets. It never ends. And it has taken me much further than I ever guessed. But in the end it's nothing but numbers in the street.
Zki.Nº serie barruan konposaketa hauekin ari naiz orain entseatzen, hezkuntza proiektu baterako. Ea laket duzuen:

Gasteizen erakutsi genuen estrainekoz 2005 urte amaieran. 3x3 metroko eskaparate baten (Cafe Plaza, Dato kaletik Plaza Berrirantz). Gero Elgetako espaloira joan zen, eta azkenik Sestaoko Berritzegunera, 200 matematika irakasleen topaketan ikusgai.
